Certified Reference Materials for Textiles and Leather

May 6th, 2025
AccuStandard is pleased to share a selection of new of high-quality Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) for the reliable and accurate identification of aromatic amines, chlorophenols, PFAS and other chemicals commonly used in the manufacturing of textile and leather products and in accordance with different EN and ISO test methods.
Test Methods for Chemical Compounds in Textiles and Leather
Different chemical compounds are often applied in textile and leather products to help achieve certain color, durability and water repellent properties. For instance, Aromatic Hydrocarbons such as aromatic amines, chlorobenzene and chlorotoluene compounds are added to allow for vibrant and uniform color distribution, while Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are used to enhance durability and water-resistant properties.
Due to the toxic impact for some of these chemicals, the European Union has issued Directive (EU) 2018/1513 aimed at restricting the use of Carcinogenic, Mutagenic, or Toxic for Reproduction (CMR) chemicals in textile consumer goods. In order to reduce exposure to these hazardous chemicals, clothes that are made or imported into the EU region must meet the testing requirements in that EU Directive.
Analytical test methods such as EN17137, ISO14184, ISO14362 and others have been published to help manufactures and importers adhere to the global and regional regulation for chemical content in textiles and to ensure the health and safety of consumers.
