Density Standards added to ISO 17034 Scope

July 16th, 2025

AccuStandard is excited to announce that Density Standards have been added to our ISO 17034:2016 accreditation scope of Physical Property CRMs for Petroleum products. Our new Density standards are designed to measure and verify density for different fuel distillates following ASTM test method D4052 (Density, Relative Density, and API Gravity of Liquids by Digital Density Meter) and other equivalent methods such as ISO 12185 and IP 365.

Why Is Measuring Density Important?

Measuring Density (mass per unit volume) accurately is fundamental to convert the unit volume to unit mass in different types of fuel. This is particularly important for quality and compliance purposes for large shipments of fuel when it is not practical to measure the weight of the shipment.

Other physical parameters, such as Dynamic Viscosity, can be calculated for fuels and lubricants using Density. According to ASTM D445, Dynamic Viscosity can be calculated by multiplying the measured kinematic viscosity with Density. Dynamic Viscosity is defined as fuel’s resistance to flow under applied external force which is necessary for studying fuel’s behavior under different operating conditions.

ASTM D4052 Density CRMs

  1. NEW! D-4052-02
    ASTM D4052 Density Standard (0.80-0.88 g/mL)
  2. NEW! D-4052-01
    ASTM D4052 Density Standard (0.71-0.78 g/mL)
