New CRMs for UV Stabilizers

June 16th, 2026
Ultraviolet Stabilizers are widely used across industrial and consumer applications. These compounds are recognized as global environmental contaminants due to their persistence, bioaccumulation potential, and widespread distribution.
What are Benzotriazole Ultraviolet Stabilizers (BUVSs)?
Benzotriazole Ultraviolet Stabilizers (BUVSs) are aromatic compounds that are widely used across industrial and consumer applications to prevent UV-induced degradation, discoloration, and material weakening. BUVSs exhibit high chemical stability and resistance to degradation processes such as hydrolysis and oxidation, causing them to persist in the environment. They are commonly added to textiles, personal care products such as sunscreens and lotions, as well as industrial materials including plastics, rubbers, paints, coatings, and electronics.
Regulations for UV Stabilizers
- In 2023, UV-328 was listed under Annex A of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), with the aim of phasing out its production and use globally.
- The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has classified UV-320, UV-327, and UV-350 as substances with high potential for bioaccumulation and strong resistance to degradation.
- In 2025, ECHA added several benzotriazole UV stabilizers—including UV-328, UV-320, UV-326, UV-327, UV-329, and UV-350—to the Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC).
UV-327
CAS # 3864-99-1
2,4-Di-tert-butyl-6-(5-chloro-2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)phenol

UV-328
CAS # 25973-55-1
2-(2H-Benzotriazol-2-yl)-4,6-di-tert-pentylphenol

UV-350
CAS # 36437-37-3
2-(3-sec-Butyl-5-tert-butyl-2-hydroxyphenyl)benzotriazole

Reference Standards for UV Stabilizers
To further support regulatory compliance and product safety requirements, AccuStandard provides Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) for a range of Benzotriazole UV Stabilizers, including a CRM for ISO 24040, for the analysis of UV-320, UV-327, UV-328, and UV-350 in textiles. These CRMs enable accurate identification and quantification of these compounds in consumer products and other complex matrices, helping manufacturers and laboratories ensure reliable results, meet regulatory requirements, and better manage potential risks associated with human exposure.
